It’s estimated at least one in three post-secondary students in Canada experiences food insecurity, a problem exacerbated by this year's pandemic. The Food Security Project was launched by Dal this year to help raise funds to support student-led food programs.

Dr. Lisa Barrett, an infectious diseases specialist with Dal’s Faculty of Medicine, organized a pop-up testing site at É«ÃÃÃÃÖ±²¥ this week that attracted long lines of young people — many of them students — in for free, rapid COVID-19 testing amid a growing second wave of cases in Halifax.

Throughout what has been a tumultuous year, Human Rights and Equity Services at É«ÃÃÃÃÖ±²¥ has worked hard to spur important public discussions about diversity, race and issues of inclusion — capping it off this Friday with a conference filled with timely panels and workshops.

As communities across Canada, including Halifax, adapt once again to a steep rise in COVID-19 cases, É«ÃÃÃÃÖ±²¥ is encouraging students, faculty and staff to renew their efforts to follow Public Health and university protocols designed to keep one another safe and limit the spread of the virus.

Food researcher Cassie Hayward says it will take community support to address systemic gaps — and a crowd-funding campaign launching on Giving Tuesday (Dec.1) is aiming to raise $40,000 to boost student-led initiatives that assist students with healthy eating.
