WINDSOR, Ont. (CIS) – The York University Lions lead both sides of competition after the first day of the 2015 CIS Track & Field Championships at the St. Denis Centre.

Lions third year sprinter Khamica Bingham led the way with a record breaking performance in the women's 60m. The Brampton, ON native captured gold with an impressive 7.19 time to set the new standard.

The Lions swept the gold medals in the sprints with a first place finish from Bismark Boateng in the men's competition. A Toronto native, Boateng narrowly edged Regina's Tevaughn Campbell for the gold with a time of 6.76. Campbell grabbed silver (6.80), while Boateng's teammate Ike Omoruna brought home the bronze (6.87).

Only a few short hours after being named the CIS Outstanding Female Field Performer of the Year, York's Brittany Crew added to her hardware with a gold medal performance in the women's weight throw. The third year Psychology major threw 18.45m to blow away the competition by a full metre. Saskatchewan's Olena Olenick took home the silver with a toss of 17.45m, while the bronze went to Sarah Dougherty of Guelph (17.14m).

Fourth-year veteran James Turner won the gold medal in the men's pentathlon (4077). The Kelowna, B.C., native and OUA pentathlon record holder placed first in the 1000m (2:44.57), second in the long jump (7.04m), shot put (14.22m) and high jump (1.97m), while finishing third in the 60m hurdles (8.28 seconds).

On the women's side, Calgary's Niki Oudenaarden took home the gold with a point total of 4,072. Oudenaarden placed first in the shot put (13.65m) and long jump (5.85), second in the 800m (2:26.28) and high jump (1.70m), and fifth in the 60mH (9.04).

Day two kicks off Friday with the men's weight throw at 3:00pm, while track events start at 4:30pm with the women's 60m hurdle prelims.

A full day's worth of action can be caught live on starting at 3:00pm with the weight throw.
