Congratulations to Susan Bryson (Pediatrics) upon being awarded the Professional of Distinction Award at the seventh annual Discovery Awards for Science and Technology.聽 This award recognizes 鈥渨orld-class science and technology researchers or developers who have demonstrated ingenious and innovative thinking in the creation of unique ideas, concepts, perspectives and processes in their field.鈥澛 Dr. Bryson was recognized for her 鈥渙utstanding contribution to autism research and her efforts to help the autism community.鈥
Congratulations to Gerry Frager (Pediatrics), recipient of the prestigious Rotman Award.聽The award, presented by the SickKids Foundation, recognizes innovation in pediatric home care, and is a visionary award intended to help grow and advance the work of important home care delivery systems, ultimately enabling better care and treatment for Canadian children.
Congratulations to Marie-Claude Gregoire (Pediatrics) upon being awarded the Emerging Professional of Distinction award at the seventh annual Discovery Awards for Science and Technology.聽This award recognizes post-secondary science and technology students, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, or practicing professional, 35 years of age or under who live and study in Nova Scotia.聽The recipients of this award demonstrate intellectual achievement, excellence and the potential for ongoing growth and development.
Congratulations to Brian Hall (professor emeritus, Science) who was inducted into the Discovery Centre鈥檚 Hall of Fame which recognizes Nova Scotians who have made an outstanding lifetime contribution to society through scientific and technological discovery and invention.
Congratulations to Vonda Hayes (Medicine) and Ewart Morse (Medicine) upon receiving Awards of Excellence for outstanding contribution to the discipline of family medicine in Nova Scotia, and to Katherine McNally (Medicine) and Mireille Lecours (Medicine) upon receiving Awards of Excellence for outstanding contribution to the discipline of family medicine in Prince Edward Island.聽These Awards of Excellence were bestowed by the College of Family Physicians of Canada to members who in the past 12 to 24 months have made an outstanding contribution in a specific area pertaining to one or more of the following areas:聽patient care; community service; hospital or health care institutions; College activities (National or Chapter); teaching, research or other elements of the academic discipline of family medicine.
Congratulations to Stephanie Kaiser (Endocrinology & Metabolism), recipient of the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (CSEM) Educator of the Year award.聽Dr. Kaiser received her award during the annual meeting in October.

Congratulations to Nuala Kenny (Bioethics) upon being awarded the 2009 Dr. William Marsden Award in Medical Ethics by the Canadian Medical Association.聽This award recognizes a member who has demonstrated exemplary leadership, commitment, and dedication to the cause of advancing and promoting excellence in the field of medical ethics in Canada.
Congratulations to Matthew Lee (Science student) who won the $1,000 first prize in the inaugural national Young Composer鈥檚 Choral Competition.聽His winning composition is based on a traditional Latin responsorial chant, O Magnum Mysterium.
Congratulations to Susanne Litke (色妹妹直播 Legal Aid) who was awarded the prestigious 2009 Frances Fish Women Lawyers鈥 Achievement Award presented by the Nova Scotia Association of Women and the Law.聽This award honours and celebrates outstanding women lawyers who have achieved excellence in their area of specialty or in the community, and who have demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of women鈥檚 equality in or through the legal profession.聽Ms. Litke was presented with the award to recognize her exceptional work with community and individuals in advancing the equality of women.
Congratulations to Ivar Mendez (Neurosurgery, Brain Repair Centre) upon being named one of the 10 most influential Hispanic Canadians of 2009 by the Hispanic Business Association.聽 The awards were presented recently in Toronto by the Honourable Peter Kent, Canada鈥檚 Minister for the Americas.
Congratulations to Sunisha Neupane (Chemistry & IDS student) upon being chosen as Nova Scotia Volunteer of the Year by the nonprofit development agency CUSO-VSO. From Nepal, Ms. Neupane helped organize聽CUSO-VSO's Stand Up Campaign in October to draw attention to world poverty.聽 As well, she acts as an interpreter and life-skills counselor for the Metropolitan Immigration Settlement Association (MISA), helping refugees adjust to life in Halifax, and assists patients during mealtime at the QEII Hospital every Sunday afternoon.
